Implementation of the Government Response to the Knight Review of the Student Visa Program

The majority of the stage two Knight Review changes are proposed to be implemented on 24 and 26 March 2012 with some other changes proposed to commence later in 2012 and in early 2013.

One of the recommendations agreed to by government is the introduction of new post-study work arrangements, which are planned to come into effect in 2013

Permanent Employer-Sponsored Visa Program Reforms

At the 6th Annual CPD Immigration Law conference, held on 9 March 2012, the Minister for Immigration and Citizenship, the Hon Chris Bowen MP announced changes to the Permanent Employer-Sponsored visa program. These changes will be implemented from 1 July 2012.

The changes are the result of a review of the permanent employer-sponsored program which was conducted during 2011. The visas affected are the permanent Employer Nomination Scheme, Regional Sponsored Migration Scheme and Labour Agreements.
