The peak tourist organisation in Australia wants the age restriction on working holiday visas to be relaxed in order to attract a broader spectrum of qualified workers and professionals.

The federal government is conducting a migration review to determine how to address Australia’s labour shortages.

The working holiday visa is restricted to those under the age of 35, despite its popularity with backpackers.

Margy Osmond, the chief executive officer of the Tourism and Transport Forum of Australia, stated that Australia would benefit more from the programme if the age eligibility requirements were raised to 50.
