Subclass 485 visas (all streams) must be applied for in Australia as of November 26, 2023; however, the applicant need not be present for immigration clearance at the time of the visa’s issuance.
Candidates for Partner (Subclass 309 and 820) visas were permitted by the COVID-19 Concession to be in or out of Australia at the time of visa issuance. In the past, subclass 309 applicants had to be outside of Australia while subclass 820 candidates had to be within Australia when their visa was granted.
