Treasury raised its net migration prediction for 2022–2023 from the 235,000 it provided in the October 2022 Budget to 400,000 in the May 2023 Budget, setting off a “big Australia” uproar.
The number of people, regardless of citizenship or visa status, who enter Australia after spending more than 12 out of the previous 16 months abroad and stay there for at least that long less the number of people who have lived in Australia for a significant amount of time and leave for at least 12 out of the previous 16 months.
