Australian student visa fee hike proposal triggers debate.
Reducing the perceived burden that foreign matriculators are placing on the market is the goal of Australia’s planned increase in the cost of student visas, but detractors claim that restricting foreign enrollment will lead to more serious issues. An Australian public policy think tank proposed late last month to increase the application fee for student visas from AU$750 to AU$2,500 (US$497-1,656). Applicants will still need to pay the amount whether or not they are granted a visa.
